BIS

(Bemis Intern Show)

BIS (Bemis Intern Show) was the first ever exhibition put on by interns at the Bemis Center for Contemporary Art in Omaha, Nebraska. MC was an AIR Intern at Bemis during the summer of 2025, where she met incredible artists, staff, and interns. She discussed the idea of a group exhibition with her fellow interns, which she then proposed to the Bemis staff. Her goal for the project was to facilitate an educational experience for herself and her colleagues, as well as take full advantage of the opportunities the Bemis internship provides.

The interns were interested in exhibitions or had projects of their own to show, but not enough time or experience to show them because of the unpaid status of the internship and because of their status as recent college graduates/students. The staff were incredibly supportive, and gave the interns 2 weeks to put the show together for Bemis’ seasonal “Open House/Open Studios” event, which would ensure the show could be seen by the public. MC collaborated with her peers, and assembled teams to tackle public relations, exhibition design, graphic design, and documentation.

BIS was on view from July 26th to August 1st, 2025 in the second floor installation space. The show exhibited work by artists Micah Fullinfaw, Sydney Huynh, Laila Klare, Marin Mowat, Nicholas Langford, MC Daubendiek, and Fátima “SABOR” Parra. Each of the artists, as well as art historian Jadyn Anderson, collaborated on the production, installation, and promotion of BIS.

Thank you to all of the interns, staff, and artists in residence at Bemis for making BIS possible!
